Which Console?

Not sure which console is best for you? See our guide below.

Microsoft has banned as many as 1,000,000 gamers from Xbox live for modifying their consoles to play pirated games. Xbox360 owners who have been cut off from Microsoft's Xbox Live service will have to buy a new console if they want to play online again. A statement from Microsoft suggests this latest wave was timed to prevent people from playing pirated versions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 . "We can assure you that if an Xbox Live member follows the Xbox Live terms of use, purchased a retail copy of Modern Warfare 2 and played the game on an unmodified Xbox 360, no action will be taken," the firm said.

However, modified consoles will still work offline. Microsoft has not said how it was able to determine which gamers to disconnect. "We do not reveal specifics, but can say that all consoles have been verified to have violated the terms of use".

Test Drive Unlimited 2

Test Drive 2 Unlimited will be released on 11 February 2011. The first game was good fun, you could meet up with your mates on line and just go for cruises or drive with people you didn't know or just explore the map using the sat nav. It was just good fun in general, hopefully the new game will live up to expectations and will play well.

F1 2011

F1 2010 was the fastest-selling FORMULA ONE game ever released which in my opinion is a disgraceful stat due to the fact that the official F1 2010 game was shockingly bad. Qualifying did not include real cars, when in practice you could not view other drivers even in the multiplayer game, the handling was not very good, the weather system didn't work, nor did the tyre model or tyre wear, or the marbles that were visible in the game. Overall F1 2010 was a rushed job made to create profit without playability. This despite Codemasters claiming before release that, they were not trying to turn a fast profit on this game and would make it properly. I am probably the biggest petrol-head in the world and pre-ordered the last game but refuse to ever buy another codemasters driving game after their last joke of a game. Somehow F1 2010 was a BAFTA award winning game, which defies both logic and belief. The follow up to F1 2010 will be named F1 2011 and can only be an improvement on it's predecessor, but even if Codemasters send me a free copy of F1 2011 to try I will be very reluctant to even load the game in my xbox 360 or on my eyefinity PC.

Bespoke handheld editions of F1 2011 are also in production for Nintendo 3DS™ and Sony’s next generation portable entertainment system (NGP), each designed to take advantage of the new platforms’ unique capabilities; specific release dates for the handheld editions are to be announced.

In F1 2011 players will be challenged to "'Be the driver, live the life, go compete’, with wide-ranging technical and gameplay advancements on and off track and vastly extended competitive and co-operative multiplayer components". I guess by this Codemasters mean that this time the features that they implement might work - although somehow I very much doubt it. F1 2011 will feature all of the official teams, drivers and circuits from the highly anticipated 2011 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, including the current FIA FORMULA ONE DRIVERS’ WORLD CHAMPION Sebastian Vettel. The 2011 season also sees the debut of the 2011 FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX OF INDIA at Delhi’s Jaypee International Race Circuit and the return of the iconic Nürburgring to the calendar.

In production at Codemasters Studios Birmingham, F1 2011 is being developed using the EGO Game Technology Platform, Codemasters’ proprietary tech that powered the critically acclaimed, 2 million-plus selling F1 2010™, GRID and currently driving DiRT 3. This means that if you have a FFB steering wheel the car will feel like it is drifting across the top of the track rather than gripping the track and giving you a feeling of traction. The EGO engine is of no use to an F1 game, Codemasters need to stop playing around and build a physics engine from the ground up to get their F1 title to work. Compare how the F1 car feels in F1 2010 to the FW31 F1 car in iracing and their is NO comparison, the iracing car has grip and you can feel what is going on, whilst F1 and it's EGO engine look good but fail to deliver.

F1 2011 will be released September 23rd 2011 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Games for Windows with handheld editions to follow. Save your money and either look for another racing game or if you are serious about simracing then visit iracing, if you need a referral put James Prentice in and once signed up send me an in-game message and I'll answer any questions you have to help you get started.

New Console Games

We provide information on forthcoming console game releases and new consoles. There will also be some console game reviews of our favourite games.

Can we expect to see the new PlayStation 4, the Xbox720 or the Wii 2 anytime soon? According to console gaming expert Michael Pachter, "We do not expect a “new” console in 2010 (other than the long-rumoured high definition Wii, which is likely to upgrade the Wii to current console technology) … We do not expect the ‘next’ generation to begin before 2013."
